I learned how to become a better teacher by watching, listening, and questioning other teachers for over thirty years. Now that I am retired, it's my turn to pass on my strategies, philosophies, successes, and failures to others who may learn from my experiences.

I think it's great that you let them know that you understand their fears and explain why it's important.

While I don't mind getting up in front of students, getting up in front of people is difficult for me too. My husband hated it more than me, and in high school, he actually took a speaking class as an English elective to get over his fear. It was a good thing because he became a scientist, and gives talks all the time.
