Not only is it disappointing, but the confronting of the student would plague me. I hated that part of my job. Kids in this class definitely know what copying is and know when something is not their work. I think Theresa is right in that he just didn't think I would check. It's just sad! Some kids lack the skill to cite sources correctly. Some simply take from multiple sources like a collage artist. It's a difficult thing for them, in a mixed media culture, to figure out. I think some of them get rushed with other work, think you'll never check, or plan to change it more and run out of time. Whatever it is, it's just an excuse. He'll know that you care about what kind of person he is, which hopefully makes an impression as to what type of person he becomes. The "This I Believe" from the other student was well written.
